Westland District Council has confirmed $10,170.30 in funding through the Creative Communities Scheme to support a diverse range of arts, culture, heritage and community-led initiatives across the district.
Mayor Helen Lash acknowledged the importance of supporting projects that strengthen community identity, celebrate creativity, and encourage local participation.
Following assessment and discussion, funding was approved for the following projects:
- Hokitika Community Trust – Children’s Day
- Destination Hokitika – Matariki: Light Up Hokitika
- Hokitika Dramatic Society – Acting Workshops in Hokitika
- Te Hau-a-Uru Rangatahi Kapa Haka Development Programme 2026
- Westland Impressions – Under our Feet
- Ross Community Society – Ross Centennial Hall Mural
The funded projects reflect the broad scope of the Creative Communities Scheme, supporting initiatives that foster participation in the arts, celebrate local culture and heritage, and provide creative opportunities for residents across the district.
The Committee noted the value these projects bring to Westland communities through collaboration, storytelling, youth development, public art and community engagement.
