FUTURE FRANZ
Government agencies, local government, mana whenua, and key infrastructure and technical
representatives met today as a first step towards a collective commitment to develop a long-term,Â
integrated approach to managing natural hazard risk and supporting the economic future andÂ
sustainability of Franz Josef/Waiau.
The meeting was acknowledged as the first step towards an improved coordinated regionalÂ
response. The response will require multiple layers identifying key deliverables, risks and associatedÂ
issues, engagement, investment opportunities, timeframes and accountabilities.
Membership is expected to expand to include key community stakeholders, technical and otherÂ
interested parties, to enable the development and delivery of a long-term Future Franz strategicÂ
work programme.
