Delays in the supply of key equipment required for the Hokitika Swimming Pool heating upgrade have impacted the project timeline, with the pool now expected to reopen on Monday 12 October 2026.
These delays were outside of Council's control and have affected the final stages of the upgrade programme.
We understand this will be disappointing news for pool users and sincerely regret the delay. We know how important the facility is for recreation, learn-to-swim programmes, schools, and community wellbeing.
The updated reopening date falls after the school holiday period, and we appreciate that many families were looking forward to using the pool. However, it is important that all work is completed safely and thoroughly before the facility reopens.
Contractors are continuing to make good progress, and work is now focused on completing the installation and commissioning of the new heating system.
Council remains committed to delivering a more sustainable and efficient facility for the community and looks forward to welcoming swimmers back to the pool on 12 October.
