Westland District Council has confirmed that tenders for the Hokitika Swimming Pool heating upgrade have now closed, with submissions currently being assessed and evaluated ahead of a report to Council on 4 June.
The tender period was extended by two weeks to support the procurement process and ensure sufficient opportunity for submissions to be received.
Chief Executive Barbara Phillips said progressing the heating upgrade remains a priority for Council as it works toward reopening the facility with a more sustainable long-term solution in place.
“We know how important the Hokitika Swimming Pool is to our community, and there has been strong interest in progressing the upgrade as quickly as possible,” she said.
“The tender process is an important step in ensuring Council can fully assess the available options and make informed decisions around the future heating system.”
Council continues to monitor fuel prices closely while the pool remains temporarily closed. While diesel prices have reduced in recent weeks, Council said fuel costs remain a significant factor and continue to be monitored carefully.
During the closure period, the pool team has completed the facility’s annual deep clean and maintenance programme, ensuring the site remains in good condition ahead of reopening.
Ms Phillips acknowledged the ongoing patience and understanding from the community while work continues.
