This is one of Westland District Councils’ most exciting projects, working together with Westland High school. The project consists of building a new steel frame tension membrane structure over the existing outdoor netball courts. The completed project will cover an increased area that includes:
- four netball courts sheltered on three sides
- full LED lighting
- retractable nets separating the courts
- PA system
The finished structure will be connected to the future pavilion. This will allow different sports groups to have access to an all-weather training facility throughout the year.
An artist’s impression of the finished structure is seen in the picture below.
The tender has been awarded and the contractual details are being worked through by the supplier and the council. Construction is estimated to start only after the netball season to minimise disruption. WDC and other stakeholders will continue to update the public.
