PRESENTATIONS

Westland Cultural Heritage Tourism Project

Jackie Gurden spoke to the presentation.

The project is in three parts, two in Hokitika and one in Ross. They will work with groups on funding applications and the Council’s Hokitika CBD plan.

The Committee received the report.

Heritage Hokitika Projects

David Verrall gave a verbal update, 30 year anniversary this year as an incorporated society. Has been involved in all the heritage projects since then. Discussed projects and funding that the society has been involved with. Identify projects and raise funds.

Te Tai o Poutini Art Awards Proposal

Sue Asplin spoke to the presentation.

Recognising excellence in the Arts on the West Coast. Annual competition to support and showcase artists. Based on Tasman Art Awards and Taranaki Art Awards.

Year 1 support local artists, then year 2 open up NZ wide. Artists can sell work. There will be specific regional awards: Depict Te Tai Poutini, and a Maori section (Iwi descendants).

Different categories of visual arts (sculpture, painting etc) and grand overall winner. Guest and local judges versed in art world. Little cost to artist. Short listed artists will receive $250 each for materials and time. The works will be displayed in format that can be seen around town and could be sent to other parts of the district.

Adopting Term of Reference for the Parks, Reserves and Environment Subcommittee

The Committee adopted the Parks, Reserves, and Environment Subcommittee Terms of Reference.

 Parks, Reserves and Environment confirmation of Sub-committee Members

Sarah Brown, Community Development Advisor spoke to the report.

The Committee confirmed the appointment of the nominated members to the Parks, Reserves, and Environment Subcommittee.

Committee moved that Chair of Community Development Committee become the Committee representative on the Parks, Reserves and Environment Sub-committee.

Westland Creative Community confirmation of Committee Members

Sarah Brown, Community Development Advisor spoke to the report.

The Committee confirmed the appointment of the nominated members to the Westland Creative Community Committee.

Student Volunteer Army

A late addition to the agenda by Chair Latham Martin.

SVA would like to send a delegation to Hoki in July.

Recommendation to establish a group to oversee a list of recommended proposals to the SVA delegation.
