FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Public to have their say on proposed speed limits

Consultation to determine the appropriate speed limit for 87 roads around the Westland District begins on Tuesday 29 September. To increase road safety, Council has identified roads where speed limits could be reduced. Some of the roads already have a higher posted speed limit than the proposed limit, and some have the open road limit of 100 kilometres per hour by default.

Transportation Manager, Karl Jackson says “Council encourages community members to submit on this consultation. We can make the best recommendation and decision with local knowledge and input. Speed is often the deciding factor in the outcome of a crash. Evidence shows that slower speeds reduce the likelihood of serious injury or fatality.”
