Roads

Council maintains 685 kilometres of roads in the Westland District. The total length of urban roads is 53 kilometres and rural roads is 632 kilometres.

Many of the roads have kerb and channel, footpaths, roadmarking, signage and streetlights, which are administered by Council.

Transfund subsidises around 60% of the Council's roading programme (Note that the state highway network is administered by Transit New Zealand, not Westland District Council).

Westland District Council has approximately 335 kms of unsealed road pavement (46.5% of Councils total length of road).

Bridges

Council has 257 Bridges in the Westland District and each year some are earmarked for replacement. A bi-annual bridge inspection is carried out by Council's Professional Services Staff and regular maintenance is undertaken by Council's maintenance contractor.
