Stage 2 of the Hokitika Pool redevelopment begins in June

Media Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stage 2 of the Hokitika Pool Redevelopment Project is about to commence.

Euan Gutteridge, Project Director at Joseph & Associates advises that the scope of work for this stage includes:

  • Installing a new pool water treatment plant to improve water quality in a new external plant room.
  • Installing new circulation pipework and pool liner.
  • Additional strengthening works to the main concourse.
  • Demolition of the existing reception and changing rooms and constructing a new reception with changing rooms on the Weld Street entrance.

“Unfortunately, to complete these works the pool needs to be closed for longer than usual winter maintenance period. This work will commence on 6 June 2023 when the pool closes at King's Birthday weekend and is currently anticipated to take up to four months.”

Upon reopening, an interim public entrance for the pool will be located on the west side of the building behind the RSA on Sewell Street. Temporary changing and toilet facilities will be provided while the new reception and changing facilities are constructed.

Scott Baxendale, Group Manager District Assets says “We apologise for the extended winter closure and hope to reopen as soon as possible. The new reception and changing facilities are expected to be open to the public in autumn 2024. We look forward to the public enjoying an enhanced facility, with comfortable changing facilities and a pool that meets modern water quality standards.”
