Notice Regarding Septage Disposal

Septage Receiving Halted Immediately

Haast, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef and Hokitika wastewater treatment oxidation ponds affected until further notice

Westland District Council wishes to advise that septage receiving at public wastewater treatment oxidation ponds in the district has ceased temporarily, effective immediately. This affects all four schemes: Hokitika, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef and Haast.

The purpose of this shutdown is to investigate improved monitoring processes of influent septage volumes and frequencies at these sites. This review of septage volumes will help Council ensure that parties discharging at these sites do so in a compliant manner and are charged appropriately, according to the volumes of excrement, waste and septic tank material being disposed of. This will also help Council improve its data and knowledge so that it can plan for and minimise the environmental effects of influent sewage, and adhere to compliance criteria with its oxidation ponds’ resource consents.

But I need to dispose of septage urgently…what do I do?

Council apologises for the temporary inconvenience caused.

Please assist the Council and its contractors by sharing this notice with other relevant parties.
