This is to advise that Westland District Council has adopted a policy to accept the use of an onsite Wastewater / Sewage Management System for properties within the Franz Alpine Report with soils graded Category 3 or lower. This change will be effective immediately.
For all soil types outside of this scope, written permission needs to be granted from the West Coast Regional Council for sewage wastewater discharge to land.
Consent holders will be responsible for ensuring that periodic emptying of the septic tank and ongoing maintenance for the system is carried out at their own cost.
Existing and new septic tanks with approved soakage systems will be able to be used for a maximum of 15 years after the date of installation, after which time a building consent will be required for connection to an approved reticulated system (if in place). This connection will be at the property owner’s own cost. A copy of the authorisation letter from the network utility owner for connection must be provided to Westland District Council.
All waste water connections will require a building consent to be granted prior to any works being undertaken.
Application forms for Sewage Waste Water Discharge to Land can also be obtained from the West Coast Regional Council website or below. For more information, please visit the West Coast Regional website.
