Revised Property Valuation Rolls

The Valuation Rolls for Westland District Council have been revised by Quotable Value Limited (as the Council’s valuation service provider).

The revised Rating Values are effective as at 1 September 2017 and the new notices of valuation will be posted to owners and ratepayers from 22 November 2017.

The District Valuation Rolls will be open for public inspection, free of charge, during regular office hours, at the offices of:

West Coast Wilderness Trail Detours 

The Hurunui Jacks trail diversion work was completed this morning (Friday 11 November 2017) and is now open to cyclists.  Trustpower have a contractor starting work on the bridge widening on Tuesday 14 November but there should not be any conflict with cyclists during the construction period.

Customer Service Centre Relocation

Westland District Council wish to advise residents that the Council Customer Service Centre has been relocated. From Monday 16 October 2017 onwards, customers will be able to access the Customer Service Centre from the side entrance of the Council building on Weld Street opposite the Clocktower Café and Mountain Jade Backpackers.

The entrance to the Hokitika i-SITE for tourism information and bookings and AA services remains unchanged.

Contract for Whataroa and Kumara water treatment plants awarded to next preferred tenderer

Westland District Council is pleased to announce that the Whataroa and Kumara water treatment plant projects are back on track, following the recent awarding of the contract to Southwater who were the next preferred tenderer.

Temporary Closure of Mahinapua Track Bridge

Temporary Closure

18th September to 31st October

From Monday 18th September the Mahinapua Track will be closed at the Mananui Sawmill site. Cyclists will not be able to access the track from SH6. From the Woodstock Road cyclists can enter but will need to turn around at the wetlands. Signage and maps are being put up at the kiosk, Mahinapua DOC Carpark on SH6 and Paiere Road directing cyclists down SH6. It is expected the track will be closed until 31 October.

Transfer of Mining Functions to WCRC

As of Tuesday 1st of August 2017, all Westland District Council mining functions have been transferred to West Coast Regional Council.

What this means is that all enquiries, compliance concerns and applications for mining resource consents need to be directed to West Coast Regional Council as follows:

Local Government Review on the West Coast

Local Government Review on the West Coast

The Local Government Commission will be on the West Coast in June to talk to and invite thoughts from the community about local government in the region.

“Last year we received an application asking us to look at your local government arrangements, with a view to making changes,’’ says Local Government Commissioner Janie Annear.  “The application met the legal requirements for assessment, and the step we are now taking is to seek the views of the wider community.”
