Rapid flood assessments

Council has several staff undertaking rapid flood assessments and quick capture rapid data capture assessments due to the adverse weather. We appreciate your understanding while staff do this essential task.

This information is utilized to update Council and Regional Council databases  regarding areas prone to flooding or other events, and to identify the extent  of property and infrastructure damage in our region following these events .

Recycling collection will happen as scheduled today. For those streets that are affected by flooding your collection will be done when the water has subsided in your area.

The Hari Hari Transfer station is closed.

West Coast Severe Weather Event

A state of emergency remains in place for the Westland District due to the effects of the severe weather event.

The West Coast Emergency Co-ordination Centre (ECC) and Westland Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will remain operational today.

Residents who are concerned about flooded properties should contact the Westland District Council to arrange an assessment.

Please join the Westland District Council and New Coasters on  International Race Relations Day, Thursday 21 March at 5pm for a Peace Rally.

We will show solidarity to the people affected by the tragedy in Christchurch and that Westland is a tolerant and non-violent place.

OAG report to Parliament

MEDIA RELEASE

OAG report to Parliament

The Office of the Auditor General has released their report to Parliament on the inquiry into procurement of works by Westland District Council to carry out works at Franz Josef. The works were judged necessary to address an imminent flood risk to the wastewater treatment plant.

Creative Communities Funding
