March storm remains costly for small council
Three months after the storm that washed out 60 metres of riverbank and breached the capped Fox Glacier landfill, Westland District Council and its ratepayers are still bearing financial costs for their part of the clean-up work.
Rubbish still being collected is being taken back to the landfill in Hokitika, increasing costs to manage that facility, and the council continues to evaluate the cost and impact of the remediation of the old Fox Glacier landfill.
Description of Proposal – Council received a proposal from the Hokitika Lions Club regarding the redevelopment of Lazar Park. This matter was considered by Council at the 27 June 2019 meeting and a resolution was passed to support the proposal proceeding to a special consultative process.
Westland District Council wishes to advise Fox Glacier residents connected to the Fox Glacier township water supply that there will be a water shut down for an estimated 3 hours on Thursday 18 July 2019.
The shut down will take place in the afternoon from 1pm to 4pm.
This is to allow for a section of water pipeline to be replaced which currently feeds water from the water treatment plant to consumers. The new pipeline offers greater resilience for the community supply and is Stage one of the new water treatment plant upgrade.
