Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that the Westland District Council will close the following roads to ordinary vehicular traffic for the periods indicated.

PROPOSAL TO CLOSE STREETS TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC

 

Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that for the purpose of a Community Beach Party; the Westland District Council proposes to close the following road to ordinary vehicular traffic indicated hereunder.

  • Beach Street – Camp street intersection to Public Toilets

Saturday 14 December 2019 from 3pm until 8pm

During the proposed period of closure access will be provided in an emergency.

Council’s compliance team makes every effort to follow up on any information about people seen fly tipping and will take steps to prosecute where necessary.

Roading survey

West Coast roading survey – joint media advisory

 

Westland, Grey and Buller District Councils have jointly launched a West Coast roading survey aimed at getting a more detailed understanding of how West Coasters experience their Council-owned roads, bridges and footpaths.

Rural Connectivity Group update

The Rural Connectivity Group (RCG) continues to make good progress across the West Coast with the roll out of the governments Rural Broadband Initiative Phase 2 and Mobile Black Spots programme.  To date sites have been built and are providing services to the communities of Haast township, Tatare, Ruatapu, Pukekura, Okarito, and Lake Wahapo.  There are also small cells operating to assist with coverage along State Highway 6 near Lake Moeraki, Bruce Bay and Roaring Billy Falls.

2019 Elections Declaration of Result

The Declaration of Result is now available.

Mayor: Bruce Smith is declared elected.

Northern Ward: Anna Hart, Jenny Keogan and Jane Neale are declared elected.

Hokitika Ward: David Carruthers, Paul (Tanka) Davidson and Latham Martin are declared elected.

Southern Ward: Ian Hartshorne and Ryan Kennedy are declared elected.

West Coast Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (the West Coast CDEM Group) is asking the public to keep a watch out over the next few days as parts of the region will expect heavy rain fall. 

This is a busy time for recreational activities around our waterways and coastal areas.  There are large numbers of white-baiters out fishing and combined with this being the second week of the school holidays means there’s likely to be more people than normal in areas at risk of flooding.
