Speed limits consultation

Public to have their say on proposed speed limits

Consultation to determine the appropriate speed limit for 87 roads around the Westland District begins on Tuesday 29 September. To increase road safety, Council has identified roads where speed limits could be reduced. Some of the roads already have a higher posted speed limit than the proposed limit, and some have the open road limit of 100 kilometres per hour by default.

Water Shutdown Notifications

Westroads have to repair a broken Watermain. Water shut down until 3pm.

In the vicinity of Kaniere Tram / Kaniere Rd east to around Camp Rd area.

WDC apologises for the inconvenience.

South Westland FMU Group

The West Coast Regional Council has opened applications for members of the South Westland Freshwater Management Unit Group.

Purpose of the South Westland FMU Group

The purpose of the Group is to engage with the community to identify their values for, and understand the issues with, freshwater quality and quantity in the South Westland Freshwater Management Unit (FMU). The Group will then make recommendations to the Council's Resource Management Committee (RMC) for future plan provisions and work programmes to manage the land and water resources within the FMU.

Sunset Point Access

Sunset Point remains closed for vehicular access while construction continues.

Parking is available along Gibson Quay and Beach Street with pedestrian access beside the Fire Brigade training area and along Gibson Quay.

Council asks for the public's continued patience while construction is underway.

Council has elected to undertake consultation with property owners whose drinking water is supplied by the untreated water supply from Harold Creek in Hari Hari.

Louis Sparks, Group Manager District Assets spoke to the report.

Council heard from Jon Sullivan the landowner whose land the pipeline passes through. The Mayor reminded the Council that the issue is about the effects of the anticipated new water regulations on this water supply.

LTP amendment submissions

Council is seeking community feedback on the proposal to return the management of Hokitika Museum to Council from Destination Westland, and to purchase 41 Weld Street, Hokitika, to house the Westland District Library, Hokitika Museum and possibly visitor information services.

Submissions can be made online, by email, by post or over the phone.
