Restricted Fire Season

Fire and Emergency NZ have declared a Restricted Fire Season in the Westland District in all rural and urban districts from 8am, 22 January 2019. 

During a Restricted Fire Season you will require a permit if you wish to light an open air fire. See here to check the fire season status and apply for a permit.

Water Conservation - Kumara

Water Conservation alert – Kumara Level 1

Kumara reservoir water levels have improved significantly over night. WDC wish to thank the Kumara community for their continued support.

The alert has now been downgraded to level 1.

Water use

As the summer warms up, Westland District Council would like to remind residents that many of our water supplies are reliant on the surrounding rivers and streams. This means that water restrictions may come into force. Please keep an eye on the water alerts for your area: https://www.westlanddc.govt.nz/water-alert-status.

There are a number of ways that you can save water such as:

Water Shutdown - Resolved

Repairs have been completed and the water is back on.

Urgent repair works are required on the water main on Thursday 22nd November 2018 from 7.00am to 11.00am approximately.

This will affect residents in the area of Pine Tree and Kaniere Tram Roads and a section of Kaniere Road.

WDC apologise for any inconvenience.

Opening of the new section of the West Coast Wilderness Trail

Ready for the summer season, the newest off-road section of the West Coast Wilderness Trail is set to open.

The current trail alignment is 2km on State Highway 6 from the golf course kiosk to Mananui carpark and then to Mananui historic mill site.

David Inwood, Group Manager – District Assets, says “With the opening of our new trail alignment the historic Mahinapua Rail Bridge will be accessible to the public following a successful joint project with Department of Conservation and Westland District Council.

Intended Works - Hokitika River Intake

RE: NOTICE OF INTENDED WORKS – HOKITIKA RIVER INTAKE

This notice is to advise that construction works to upgrade the Hokitika water supply intake are planned from the 18th June 2018 to the 30th June 2018 weather dependent.

Area: Intersection of Pine Tree Road and Kaniere Tram Road.

During this period, heavy equipment usage and sheet piling installation operations will be underway.

Unfortunately, some disruption and noise impacts are unavoidable due to the nature of the works.

Amateur Sports Trust

 

CRITERIA

The Development West Coast Amateur Sports Trust assists amateur sports people on the West Coast who have been recognised by their sports body as having potential to reach representative level to participate in training and competition.

Funding rounds are in March and September each year. ​Applications forms will be available on our website or from our offices when funding rounds are open.

Applications for 2018 are now closed.
