Intended Works - Hokitika River Intake


This notice is to advise that construction works to upgrade the Hokitika water supply intake are planned from the 18th June 2018 to the 30th June 2018 weather dependent.

Area: Intersection of Pine Tree Road and Kaniere Tram Road.

During this period, heavy equipment usage and sheet piling installation operations will be underway.

Unfortunately, some disruption and noise impacts are unavoidable due to the nature of the works.

Amateur Sports Trust



The Development West Coast Amateur Sports Trust assists amateur sports people on the West Coast who have been recognised by their sports body as having potential to reach representative level to participate in training and competition.

Funding rounds are in March and September each year. ​Applications forms will be available on our website or from our offices when funding rounds are open.

Applications for 2018 are now closed.



eTXT Alert Test Announcement


WDC has implemented an SMS Alert information service for our local communities.

On Friday 16th February 2018 at 9:30am a test message was sent to individuals and groups who we have in our SMS eTXT Alert System.

This is a TEST only.

No alert is active and no action is necessary. It is intended that SMS Alert messages will only be sent regarding important, time sensitive matters.

Council awarded $3.25m for tourism infrastructure

Council awarded $3.25 million funding towards tourism infrastructure projects

Westland District Council is delighted to announce that it has been successful in obtaining over $3.25 million of central government funding for four high priority infrastructure projects across the district. Out of a pool of just under $15 million, Westland as a region gained 23% of the total. This financial support enables Council to upgrade existing infrastructure (or provide new infrastructure) to alleviate the pressure created by increased tourism growth.

Two dogs believed to be involved in the death of a cat in Hokitika in August this year have been returned to their owner following a District Court hearing in Greymouth on Monday 11 December 2017.
