Annual Plan adopted

Westland District Council adopted the Annual Plan 2019/20 at the June council meeting. Mayor Bruce Smith said “Council was really pleased to hear and read the submissions earlier in the month. We had 162 written submissions to the draft Annual Plan, which shows that the community is interested in what we plan to do this year.”

Dog registration fees

WESTLAND DISTRICT COUNCIL DOG REGISTRATION

Pursuant to The Dog Control Act 1996

Notice is hereby given dog registration fees for the 2019-20 dog registration year, due on or before 1st August 2019 are:

Urban Zone - full year $74.00

Rural Zone - full year  $58.50

Government Funding for Fox Landfill

Government funding for Fox Landfill clean-up and flood recovery welcomed

The Westland District Council has today welcomed an injection of $400,000 from the Government to support recovery from the March floods, including cleaning up rubbish from river-beds and coastline after the wash-out of the long-closed Fox River landfill.

Westland District Council provided response to the Local Government Minister

Westland District Council received a letter from the Local Government Minister dated 20 March 2019. Chief Executive Simon Bastion says, “a response was sent to the Minister on 1 April 2019, and acknowledged by the Minister’s office. Reports that the Council did not respond to the letter before the briefing papers and letter were publicly released are incorrect.”

Member of the public trespassed

Member of the public trespassed

During the Extraordinary Council Meeting of Thursday 4 April, a member of the public was trespassed from Westland District Council.

The Chief Executive became aware of a public Facebook post that raised serious concerns for the safety of Council staff. Given the recent events in Christchurch, this matter was taken very seriously as a credible threat and reported to the Police. As a result a trespass notice was issued.
