Westland Racing Club land will stay with the community

The future of the grounds that house the Westland Racing Club has been secured with Council satisfactorily completing due diligence to purchase the property. This ensures that, following racing industry reforms, the land will be retained for the benefit of the community.

LGOIMA releases

Starting with responses from November 2019, Council is now proactively releasing our responses to LGOIMA requests on the website on a regular basis. This means that anyone will be able to see the information that we are providing to requests for official information.

No information that is private to an individual or their contact details will be included. If the information is requested by the media, lobby groups, public sector organisations and MPs the name of the requestor and their organisation will be made available.

Harihari rubbish collection

Council will try our best to maintain services following the severe storm of 5 – 7 December, but this will depend on the state of the road network. Thank you for your patience.

Council's public spaces

Council would like to remind members of the public that if you see something of concern in one of Council’s public spaces such as parks, reserves, playgrounds and cemeteries, you should contact the Council in the first instance. Our contractors take these matters very seriously and have been trained and equipped to ensure their safety when dealing with matters of concern.

  1. Council adopted an amended Local Governance Statement for the triennium.

This document is a collection of information about the processes through which the Council engages with its community, how the Council makes decisions, and how citizens can influence those processes. A local governance statement helps support the purpose of local government by   promoting local democracy. 

The document will be available on the website.

Council welcomes Local Government Minister’s decision

The announcement from the Local Government Minister, Nanaia Mahuta that a Crown observer will not be appointed to has been welcomed by Westland District Council. “We appreciate that the Minister recognises that Council is taking genuine steps to work through the issues raised in her correspondence with us,” says Chief Executive, Simon Bastion.
