Road closure - ZIP work

Phase 2: Zero Invasive Predators, Predator Elimination Work

Pursuant to the Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965, notice is hereby given that for the purpose of predator elimination work, the Westland District Council proposes to close the following road to ordinary vehicular traffic indicated hereunder.

  • Okarito / Forks Road

Between 25 January - 1 March on suitable weather days.

Council wishes to advise that a series of up to 5 separate closures
are being planned. These closures are expected to be for up to a maximum of 6 hours on each of these 5 days which will take place

During the proposed period of closure access will be provided in an emergency.

These closures are to allow Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP) to safely action predator elimination work within the road corridor.

This operational work is being delivered by ZIP for the Predator Free South Westland project which seeks to eliminate possums, rats, and stoats across a 100,000 ha area bounded by the Southern Alps, the Tasman Sea, and the Whataroa and Waiau (Waiho) rivers over the next five years.
