Pakiwaitara building becomes a COVID-19 vaccination site

With more of the Westland population becoming eligible for their COVID-19 vaccination, Westland District Council is pleased to be able to work with the West Coast DHB Te Poari Hauora a Rohe o Tai Poutini, to aid the vaccination roll-out. As of this week, the Hokitika COVID-19 vaccination clinic will operate out of the Pakiwaitara building in central Hokitika.

“This is where we see the Pakiwaitara building coming into its own,” observes Mayor Bruce Smith. “The intention of the purchase was to provide services to the community, and while this might not be the service we originally had in mind, for the time being it is an important service that we can assist the DHB to provide. It is a pleasure for Council to be able to work with the DHB to hold their clinic in this facility and increase the vaccinated population in Westland.”

“I would encourage everyone who is eligible to get your vaccination. It’s an important part of helping to protect vulnerable people in the community and to enable New Zealand to get back up and running sooner, rather than later.”

For more information about the vaccination programme and how to book your vaccination see the Vaccinate Canterbury West Coast website.
