Happy ending for Rosie
When Rosie the Foxy mix took fright and ran off, the community and Westland District Council’s Dog Control Officer, Clare Lomax, stopped at nothing to bring her home.
Ms Lomax received a phone call from Rosie’s distressed owner on Friday 12 August advising that Rosie, who is 12 years young, deaf and partially sighted had run away. “My first response was to visit the gentleman and get the details about Rosie from him,” says Ms Lomax. “Then I went on a door knock in the surrounding area but couldn’t see any sign of Rosie.
I kept in touch with him over the weekend and continued unsuccessfully to search for her.”
A post was put onto the local Lost and Found and Hokitika Grapevine Facebook pages, which yielded a result on Monday evening with Rosie spotted just before 9.45pm. A group of lovely ladies and children continued to search for Rosie while Ms Lomax co-ordinated phone calls. Rosie was eventually found safe and sound and returned to her delighted owner who has nothing but thanks for the ladies who gave their time to find her. She’s now snuggled back up in her blankets with her dad where she belongs.
Ms Lomax observed, “It’s great to achieve a positive outcome for an owner when their pet disappears. Animal Control is not all about compliance, it’s about helping and educating the community too. I’m so pleased that this story has a happy outcome.”
