Westland District Council unveils new-look website

Westland District Council launched its revamped website on Thursday 5 October. The website is designed to increase user-friendliness and ease of access for customers. Some new functionalities have been added including the ability for residents to complete their dog registration or log service requests online without having to phone or visit the Council.

The new website also has an e-Search section. This has amalgamated a number of separate databases and maps into one location enabling people to search for cemetery records, property and rates data and building and resource consent information all in one place.

Peter Oliver, Information Services Manager, says:

“This achievement is the culmination of a project that began 12 months ago primarily to update the website to meet the mobile-friendliness expectation that more of our users have. The way people access information is changing and many people want to be able to view our website and access information on the go using hand-held devices.”

“Council staff have re-populated and migrated most of the website data ourselves to keep the costs of this development down.”

“The new website is a lot more visually appealing and it seems to be working well. However, with any redevelopment of this size, it is possible that there may be some small glitches. So if anyone notices something that’s not working, please let us know and we will rectify this.”

“We think the new website is a lot more modern and fresh and we’d love the public’s feedback.”
