Civil Defence Update 09/11/18 at 1425

The Westland District Council Emergency Operations Centre will stand down after the 1500 briefing.

The weather situation and river conditions are improving. Local roads are open. SH6 from Hokitia to Franz Joseph reopened at 1400. South of Franz Joseph SH 6 is open but drivers should be extremely cautious.

Drivers are advised to use SH7 over the Lewis Pass between Christchurch and the West Coast as SH6 between Arthurs Pass and Jacksons remains closed over the weekend. SH73 Springfield between to Arthurs Pass (Porters Pass) is also closed due to snow.

Local contractors will continue to work to ensure that roads remain clear and river levels are monitored. The rain is forecast to clear by late this evening.
