Work has progressed well over the past week with both playing fields at Cass Square being stripped of their top sandy surfaces, enabling further assessment of the subsurface soil structure and drainage. Overall the drainage is in very good condition however some issues with the surface cross falls have been identified. Where possible these will be reshaped to improve the shape and reduce potential for water ponding.
The placement of new clean sand for the playing surface is well under way with 750 m3 of sand being placed this week.
The project is on target for completion by end of November, subject to the weather remaining favourable over the next fortnight. Fencing will then remain on site to allow the new turf surface and grass to establish. The fields will be available for public use again in February 2017.
