Safer Community Council

The Safer Community Council meets every two months to discuss issues to do with general community safety and crime prevention. It currently has involvement in the following areas:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters in Westland Mentoring Programme
  • Restorative Justice in Westland Schools
  • Facilitating Strengthening Families Meetings
  • Supporting the Awatuna Parenting Programmes Trust
  • Supporting CACTUS Westland
  • Supporting the Hokitika Community Patrol
  • Supporting the Rapid Removal Graffiti Campaign
  • CCTV in Hokitika and Franz Josef Glacier
  • Developing an alcohol strategy for Westland
  • Supporting West Coast Restorative Justice operating from the Grey Court
  • Supporting Hokitika YATA
  • Annual Price of Place Competition
