The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Matauranga o Aotearoa offers digital collections and online catalogues that can be accessed through www.natlib.govt.nz. The Library also offers online national databases that are available to you through your local library.

Papers Past

Papers Past contains digitised pages from New Zealand newspapers and periodicals published between 1839 and 1915. It covers over 40 titles from throughout New Zealand. You can now search the full-text of more than half the newspapers, and over time all will become searchable.

Transactions and Proceeding of the Royal Society of New Zealand

The Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of New Zealand (1968 to 1961) is one of New Zealand’s most important research publications, particularly for science. All 88 volumes are searchable online.

Timeframes

Timeframes is an online database of more than 50,000 paintings, drawings, portraits and photographs from the Alexander Turnbull Library relating to New Zealand’s heritage. You can browse the collection by subject or search by a word or phrase. High-quality image copies can be ordered online using the ‘shopping basket’.
